April 18, 2010 to May 2, 2010

So sweet

Cashel got some pink clip-on hair from a friend. She loves it!

Aloha Honolulu! Peter did great on his first plane ride.

Lindsay came all the way from Iowa to vacation with us.

Don't worry, it's only stunt fighting.

A boy and his binkie.

Dancing in the street at Spam Jam!

Yes, that kind of Spam...imagine a food event, a la Bite of Seattle, only everything has Spam in it. Awesome!

Cashel scored a glowstick.

Peter managed to have a bad diaper rash and an ear infection during the vacation, and was still basically as happy and sweet as ever.

Heading up the windward coast of O'ahu.

Visiting with family and meeting Auntie Keolani.

Auntie and Uncle have a great swing in their backyard...

...but about 10 seconds after this picture, Cashel realized the rope was covered with ants. That was the end of the swing!

The view from the Nu'uanu Pali.

The Byodo-In Temple

Beautiful!

Cashel loved the koi ponds around the temple.

We got her some fish food to toss in.

Realizing she couldn't ring the temple bell (there was a wedding in progress)...

...but at least she got to pose with it.

Not a fan of the coconut milk (actually, none of us really cared for it!).

Catching the sunset at an ancient Heiau (Hawaiian temple) site.

Cashel was a great trail leader!

Lindsay and I are Lost fans, so we couldn't pass up the opportunity to hide from the smoke monster inside a banyan tree. If that makes no sense, don't worry. :)

Our little actress. (Stage direction: Oh no! The smoke monster!)

This banyan outside the Honolulu Zoo is huge!

Cashel terrorized the poor birds all over the island.

Checking out the zoo animals with Lindsay.

Our traditional photo

Visiting the goats

At the Dole Plantation, exploring the world's largest maze.

Cashel and Lindsay had some navigation disputes...

...and Peter kept falling behind.

Checking out the hibiscus hedges that make up the maze.

One of the teeny geckos we found in Tai Tai's house, almost the length of my thumb.

Kailua Beach

Mmmm...sandy.

One of the first things Cashel did was write her name in the sand.

The beach is so relaxing.

Sandcastles, swimming, and a touch too much salt water can really tire a girl out.

At one of the Waikiki hotels, Cashel got to meet a real Hula dancer.

Going up to Makapu'u Point.

At Haunauma Bay. The goggles didn't stay on much past this picture.

Cashel loved playing in the waves.

Taking the tram back up to the car (otherwise it's a pretty steep hike).

Peter loved to cuddle with Tai Tai.

Polynesian Cultural Center

Meeting the Samoan fire knife dancer.

Strumming the ukulele

and showing off some hula moves.

Learing to use the Poi Balls from New Zealand

It's tricky!

Lindsay was a natural.

Just the right age for her first tattoo, don't you think?

And another...this one for a Fijian princess.

Ready for a yummy luau dinner.

After the big evening show, Cashel decided she wanted to go down and meet the performers. She settled for a picture with this man (who was the central character in the show) but spent a lot of time looking for "the other guy." We think she was looking for the fire knife dancer again.

Fresh papaya!

Peter wasn't that excited.

May 1 is Lei Day, so we got to take in some of the festivities.

Playing Konane, an old Hawaiian game similar to checkers. Cashel totally hustled this girl.

They play together so well!

After hunting geckos the entire week, on our last day she finally caught one.

She was so gentle with it, and it stayed on her hand for several minutes.

Heading home after a great trip. Sweet dreams.
