We also visited opening day at Detering Orchards, and enjoyed a hay ride...

Last day as a first grader! Every kid had one of these clips that were used on a daily behavior chart. Cashel earned a jewel each day she was extra, extra good!

Mom got a crash course in making traditional la'i (ti leaf) skirts. The leaves get de-boned and trimmed to size, tied onto a length of rope, and then shredded.
Cashel's skirt took 100 leaves.
10 hours and 10 green fingers later, here's the finished product!
Dad got the kids a cricket lollipop.
Peter declared that he would eat the cricket...
...Cashel, not so much.
In the end, they both tried it but decided the cricket didn't taste so great. We're so proud of our adventurous eaters!
The Halau performed at a Ho'ike (show) in Ashland, at Grizzly Peak Winery. It's good practice for the upcoming competition in Sacramento.
The girls performed their group kahiko (ancient style) hula about King Kalakaua. Check out those la'i skirts!
Cashel also performed her solo kahiko about Queen Liluoukalani.
She also did her solo 'auana (modern style) about the beauty of Lahaina, Maui.
And finally the group 'auana about Waikoloa, another beautiful spot on Maui.
All the dancers did a great job!
